Native Canadian Wildflowers Seeds

Shooting Star WS024
Dodecatheon hendersonii
Shooting Star is a small but stunning wildflower native to southwestern BC and California. Rarely taller than 30cm (1ft), Shooting Star nevertheless dazzles grassy Gary oak meadows.
The colourful magenta to lavender petals turn back delicately from the yellow stamens and pistil which are shaped like a spear.

Also called peacock, this beautiful spring flower is easily grown from seed. It grows best in well-drained soil, full sun or light shade, and blooms from March to May.

The Latin name dodecatheon means “twelve gods”, and perhaps implies the plant is protected by the Roman Temple, the Pantheon. Aboriginal women once used this plant as a charm to obtain the love of men and gain wealth.

Detailed germination instructions are inside the package.
