Nodding Onion, part of the lily family, is one of the most common and wide-spread onions. Blooming between May to July, its tiny pink, bell-shaped flowers are a beautiful addition to the open woodlands and meadows of interior and coastal BC, Washington and Oregon. |

Reaching up to 50 cm (20 in) in height, nodding onion germinates easily and produces many seeds.
The bulbs of nodding onion were considered a delicacy by many aboriginal peoples - eaten raw, steamed, roasted and dried. Crushed raw bulbs were also used as an effective poultice to relieve the sting of insect bites and to repel mosquitoes. Nodding onion has a very strong onion odour and, when inhaled, has remarkable abilities to clear the sinuses.
Detailed germination instructions are inside the package. |
