Black-eyed Susan is growing from the Canadian grasslands south to Florida, its striking yellow ray petals contrast beautifully with its rich blackish-brown cone-shaped centre. It is a particular favourite among butterflies.
Black-eyed Susan grows 60-90 cm (2-3 ft) tall, makes a perfect long-lasting cut flower. Planted in moist to dry well-drained soil, this flower thrives in heat and blooms from June to September.
Aboriginal people of the prairies once steeped the leaves of Black-eyed Susan for use as a kidney medicine.
