Dill (Anethum graveolens)
Native to Mediterranean and Southern Russia, dill was cultivated as early as 400 BC. In the Middle Ages, dill was used as charm against witchcraft and as an essential ingredient of love potions. Dill is an excellent herb for flavouring soups, sauces, fish and shellfish; but its most famous culinary use is for pickling cucumbers.
